FWIW, I picked up a Samson S-Patch Plus recently - seems to be built 
rather tank-like.  There are switches for normal, thru and half 
normal on the front, which is convenient, although it's to be seen 
whether I will actually want to change them very often.  The mode 
switches are small, recessed and tight, so there's little chance of 
accidentally moving them.
