I might be wrong (coz I didn't test it yet) but I think the midi modulators are 'smoothed' out and therefore won't jump. It's kind of a workaround, even tho it means you need an additional tweaker next to you.Can anybody confirm this ?Marc.-----Original Message-----

Subject: [Evolver] Re: sonic staircasesI agree. I'd love to see a mono version of the P'08 manufactured with
actual pots instead of the rotary encoders.
I love my desktop Evolver. I'll never get rid of it. But real pots
would make it even better.
Not everyone will agree though. Some people don't like the jump in
parameter values that comes with saving a patch on a synth with real
pots. If you're a real-time knob tweaker, you'll appreciate pots. And
I mean "on the fly", like you were talking about with the ENV1
parameter. But if you're more the type of person who programs patches
and then plays them without live tweaking, the rotary encoders are better.

What are calling midi modulators?
External midi controls and sliders? If so, they have digital discrete steps
also, 128 for the most part and can cause zipper also. Zipper control is
an internal synth function, software that smoothes the steps between the midi or
encoder steps kind of like glide for modulation.
Speaking of that, once again, I don't have
an evolver yet, will some day, but my Waldorf XT has a function, a lag function
for the modulation path, that filters the transition of modulation
signals.....if the DSI has that, it could possibly be used in line with the
modulation source to remove some of the zipper effect....
