Re: [Evolver] simple guitar env filter patch

2003-04-20 by Craig Wiper

Hi Ski. Mainly, I can't seem to get the 'audio' signal of my guitar to pass through the Evolver. I can get the guitar to 'trigger' things. I just can't figure out how to route the actual audio signal so I can hear, say, it being modified by the filter.
My programming experience is strictly 'patch cord' driven. I built a huge PAIA system back in the '70's, full of patch cables, etc. It was easy to plug in an audio source, and route it via cables through the system and have it come out the other end. With the Evolver being 'push-button' and 'led' driven, it's much harder to 'see' how the signal and patches are routed, hence my dilemma.
So, just where do I 'find' my guitar's audio signal if I have it plugged into 'Left In'? Which parameter setting can take 'that' audio signal and route it, for starters, through the 'filter'? I've had great luck using the Oscillators as sound sources. I just can't figure out how to 'tap in' to the external audio signal and use it for processing.
Does this make sense?
Thanks a bunch for your help.
Craig

Sorry guys. If I had a guitar, I'd give it a shot and send you a
patch.

Are you using the Input Gain to tailor the response? Are you
comfortable and experienced with programming analog subtractive
synths?

It's kind of hard to tell exactly what your trouble might be based on
your rather generic descriptions (such as, "I've been having a heck
of a time trying to get it to respond and process the guitar." and "I
could not find any that quite did what i was thinking on the unit
already.").

Anyone else here a guitar player that's using the Evolver as an
effects box?

This has to be cool for a guitar! Among other things, I can just
imagine programming the sequencer to step through different filter
values, feedback frequencies, amplitude modulation, etc. for a unique
guitar sound.
