Re: [Evolver] tuning filter with key amt

Re: [Evolver] tuning filter with key amt

The filter in my Evolver isn't tuned right too.

Audio Mod means that the filter cutoff frequency is modulated by the
oscillator waveshape.
It is similar to modulating the filter cutoff with a very fast LFO, the
osillator beeing the LFO in this case.
I think it's called filter FM as well.

Stefan

Maybe you guys just need to tune your filters? I'm not sure if that's
actually the problem since my arcane setup would make it way too much
of a hassle to test, but IIRC you can tune the filter by pressing the
row buttons 4+7 simultaneously. If it's not that, I'm fairly certain
either 1+5 or 4+8 should do it.

so, yeah one of those worked. not sure which one, I tried them all. What did those
other things do (all of them had some sort of count down involved)? What other
weird secret codes are there for this thing?

I wish I could tell you, but I honestly don't know. I was trying
stuff like that out and I discovered all of those functions plus a
couple others, but I couldn't figure out exactly what each one is. I
emailed Dave about it and he told me, but that email has gone the way
of the dodo :( I'm sure he'd tell you if you asked him, in fact the
answer might be in some documentation somewhere, I don't know.

Re: tuning filter with key amt

The 1+5, 4+7, and 4+8 button combinations all did *something* on my
Evolver, too. However, none of them successfully tuned the filter on
my unit, and I performed the routines three times each.

I actually get closer to a correct pitch *interval* (octaves within
the patch are in tune) using a value of 73 for Filter Key Tracking,
rather than 72 as recommended in the manual. However, with a value
of 73, it's impossible to get the *tuning* (relative to A3=440Hz)
correct, because the Filter Cutoff adjustment is too coarse.

Strangely, changing the Filter Resonance value also appears to have a
small effect on both the tuning and the interval of the filter
oscillation. I'm guessing that's just the result of some "analog
reality" (i.e. imperfection) creeping in, as opposed to the digital
perfection in other machines.

Re: tuning filter with key amt

That's too bad. I'm sure one of those does tune the filters. This
might not help either, but what stereo mode are you running your
evolver in? You might get slightly better results running in St1 mode
and using only one of the outputs, since in mono mode you are
actually getting the summed oscillation of two filters whose
frequency is never *exactly* the same.

It's strange that this would work for one person and not for
another...analog is as analog does, I suppose.
