But try before you buy. The software is extremely buggy, and in my experience
almost useless. It's been gathering dust inside my computer for months waiting
for me to get up the umpth for a THIRD try at getting the developer to
trouble-shoot why it won't dump patch data from the evolver to the PC Each
time, I get a brief flurry of trouble-shooting, and then he drops the ball :(
You're probably better off saving your money.

how is the implementation of drawing waveforms for the user waves ???

is that working without problems? This would be the only reason why i
would buy it! Since there has never come out a "stand alone tool" for
that ( and for "wav2evo" )!! :(

any comments ?

thanx

Yes, the Unisyn editor works great. I'm in os9 though. It doesn't
have any random generator, though, and no wave editing. But the
rest of it works great. I think it might work in OSX but I'm not there
yet. I'm not sure if it works for Poly either. One of the reasons I'm
not getting the Poly is no OS9 editor.

gotta say I liked the PC software at first but as the developer never
answered my questions or replied to my emails I kind of gave up on it... and
i never use it.

It doesn't feel finished at this moment and I certainly regret spending $50
on what still is essentially a beta.

I'd have to agree. The author has been non-responsive to my 1
question and the software isn't that good anyway.

What the software is best at is giving you a good feel for all the
various parameters when your getting started. Once your familiar
with the synth then dump the software editor.

Not at all worth the asking price, should have cost about $15 then
it might be worth the $$.

I think Dave Smith needs to be made aware of this. The software is letting
down an otherwise impeccable repuation for quality, support and customer
service...

$50 is a lot for a mere editor and for that we expect a product if not as
exciting as the evolver itself, then at least adequate

I like it. It has some limitations. It comes for free with the poly. Obviously some fixes are in order, or better manual to help us get over what appear to be bugs, but may not be.

Re: [Evolver] Editor (was RE: Evolver/ random patch generator?)

2004-07-12 by flametopuk

I too had a bad experience with the editor. I found it fatally
flawed concerning the edit buffer mangement (in a nutshell it would
save the old patch buffer not your newly edited buffer). DSI were
fast to reply to my tech enquiry but simply passed the report to the
author of the editor. He did respond quickly and confirmed that it
had never worked. However thats the last I heard. For $50 I would
have expected a bug fix to be pretty swiftly released, buts its been
several months so far. Shame. Its almost usable, which makes it more
frustrating.

:(

Could the persons who have problems with the
Editor tell me if you have the MACOSX version.
I can't work with it this week.

Hmmm.. could someone comment the waveform drawing please? I am
thinking about buying it - but if this feature is buggy too i will
spend these 50$ for something else.. maybe someone can put that damn
thing in the files section *haha ;)

I still love it because it works without probs on my system, has a lots of
useful features and saves a lot of time, especially when programming the
stepsequencers.

I personally love the PC version. I've never had any problems. It works
like it should for me. I think people should mention which version (MAC/PC)
they are using b/c it appears the MAC version is a bit buggy. Also realize,
you're more likely to hear complaints about something than you are to hear
accolades, simply b/c the people that are happy aren't usually posting about
it.

I have the PC version - i wouldn't say it was buggy, I'd say it was unclear,
and unfinished. Mostly the roblem is that what is saved is not always what I
wanted to be saved. A manual would help... some expression of interest from
the developer in reply to direct questions would help even more

Just in case...It took me a bit to realize that any edits made in
the software aren't saved (in the Evolver Hardware) until you
manually dump the patch or bank via transmit>midi>(patch, bank, etc).
That's the only way I know to make sure my work was saved in the
hardware (if I want it to be).

You got a manual? I purchased the Mac version which is not very
intutive to use and didn't come with any sort of manual. There have
been previous threads about the editor's shortcomings which Dave
should probably be pointed to as well. I agree that the shoddiness of
the editor unfortunately doesn't reflect well on the otherwise excellent
service that Dave provides.

Re: [Evolver] Editor (was RE: Evolver/ random patch generator?)

Usually I program a patch with editor and when I am finished I press "write"
on the Evolver. After that the patch is saved both in the soft- and in the
hardware. Would it make much sense if the editor would automatically save
every tweak, destroying the original patch ?
Some people might argue that there should be a popup window like "save patch
/ cancel" to prevent mistakes. I myself would be on edge by a function like
that because I often make temporary tweaks of a patch for a track record.

Has someone used a better editor yet ?

I have tried several for the Waldorf microQ. There isn't one withouth
serious flaws. Sounddiver Virus cost me one weekend until I caught the basic
library functions, it was more or less hazard if the midi connection between
Virus and Sounddiver worked. The 3 editors for the Matrix 1000 that I
tested until now don't either work at all (one of them is the only prog that
manages to completely crash my WinXP) or you have to switch off every sense
of logic to create a patch with them.

Comprising: I think the soundtower editor for the Evolver is pretty good ;-)

Re: [Evolver] Editor (was RE: Evolver/ random patch generator?)

2004-08-05 by z_flash_ram

Just got back to "online"...
I'm not able to bring *anything* into the Windows-Evolver-Editor from
the Evolver- no dump, no program, no banks!!!

The editors' author has blamed my windows 2000 security or some such
bs...lol.
I'm glad (well, relieved) to hear that someone else has this problem,
because I thought my Evolver was wack.

I haven't used the editor since the first week I bought it (8 months
or so ago).

Stephan, beautiful stuff.
