My unused MEK has been sitting in my home covered with cloth for over a
month. Last night I turned it on and noticed that many of the encoders
are not working properly. They worked fine the last time I played the
thing. The OSC gain, filter frequency, resonance, are among the bad
ones. Turning a knob would make the values jump around up and down
around the initial value. Rather annoying. I'm guessing the encoders
simply got dirty. What is the best way to remedy this problem?

Your Evolver, Mopho, Tetra, or Poly Evolver Rack shouldn't require much in the way of special care to keep it running, but a good cleaning from time to time will keep it looking like new.

Isopropyl alcohol is recommended for cleaning the metal surfaces and the Lexan overlay. It will remove finger oils and any dirt and grime that builds up on the surface over time. You should be able to buy isopropyl "rubbing" alcohol at any pharmacy. Just apply a small amount to a soft cloth and gently wipe the surface. Soft cotton or microfiber cleaning cloths work great.

The buttons and detented encoders rarely (VERY rarely) exhibit signs of age or wear and tear. On occasion, we have seen older units with a button that is intermittent. This can almost always be fixed by simply pressing the button twenty or thirty times, hard.
