There is something strange about the KD7 which makes people not like
it - I cannot remember what but it is something to do with how your
pedal beater has to swing to hit it.

Sheerers stock both Roland and Yamaha so you could possibly go down
and move a part from a Roland to the Yamaha and see if it works.  They
have always been helpful.
