Actually You are right to think there are 3 sounds, For I have found them. If you push the pedal all the way down, and plowly move it up, like.3 cms a second, you'll find a sound like deeaa. Also just mess around and you'll probably find it, just remember its not halfway up, its like 1 eighth up.

Yes, I am using a stereo cable. I was playing with the hihat
sensitivity today and found that I was able to reproduce the
elusive "third sound" by ramping up the sensitivity. However, I only
get it when I'm stomping on the pedal very rapidly, not when I'm
hitting the trigger pad with the stick, hoping to find that "halfway
open" sound.

Am I wrong to assume that there should be 3 sounds, depending on how
hard you press the pedal with your foot? Are there actually only
two sounds (open and closed) that can be achieved that way?
