I can't seem to get the "middle" sound out of my hihat pedal and controller. I can only get the 'closed' and 'wide open' sounds, and can only occasionally get the 'slightly open' hihat sound (if I press the pedal just right). Is there a way to configure this to make it easy and consistent to get all three hihat position sounds? Thanks! Mike

Yes, I am using a stereo cable. I was playing with the hihat sensitivity today and found that I was able to reproduce the elusive "third sound" by ramping up the sensitivity. However, I only get it when I'm stomping on the pedal very rapidly, not when I'm hitting the trigger pad with the stick, hoping to find that "halfway open" sound. Am I wrong to assume that there should be 3 sounds, depending on how hard you press the pedal with your foot? Are there actually only two sounds (open and closed) that can be achieved that way? Hi, The dtxpress standard pedal has full open/full close and 3 interim degrees of semi-open. The sensitivity switch bypasses the first level. ( it's more of a "let's skip first gear" switch ). If you're curious, about a year ago I tried to build a smoother pedal. http://www.rainfall.com/dtxpress/pedal.html - The experiment worked and I went on to other things but never actually built one. The standard yamaha pedal is really cheap and uses membrane switches, which is why is a little tricky to get 'in between'. You can, however, use any pedal that supports interim levels, provided you wire it correctly. KA dialog_mb@... wrote:

There are in between sounds on SOME hihat voices, But not all. I don't think any of the GM voices have them-only open and closed. But several of the others have them. It should be very easy to get them with the factory sensitivity settings. Also decrease the 'decay' value(more sustain) on the closed sound for a much better sound. and the open sound needs to be adjusted for a more realistic transition between closed and partly open. More sustain lets the open hihats ring out longer, but it also makes the first partly open sound much more open. so its a trade-off.
