TP65S vs TP100

2009-10-17 by Jagdeesh Subramanian

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my kit. I recently stopped by a music store and played on the TP100. It was a used kit with the module missing, so on my request they put the TP100 pad on a DTXplorer display model that had the brain. From previous posts, I have realized the red knob won't work on DTXpress 3 or earlier models. And I have a DTxplorer rack and pad system with DTXpress 3 brain, so its not going to be any different in terms of the red know capability for me.

I did feel more comfortable and confident in some ways while playing the snare on the TP100 as compared to the TP65 I currently have. But just curious, in terms of triggers, sensitivity is there any other difference between the two? I also know the rim shot area is separated into 2 equal zones in the TP65S while the breakup in TP100 is more like 1/4, 3/4. I am an amateur drummer so any comments in terms of ease of use is welcome.

Also my intention is buy a TP100 with the clamp so that I can move the snare TP65 pad and instead use it as a ride. Definitely not the ideal arrangement but I will have an extra pad and I don't think there's any space in the lower tom arm of the rack for an additional tom. So can I use the TP65 as a cymbal? I now have the PCY65 as a crash and ride and I can add another crash for sure in the DTXpress 3 brain.

If the performance is questionable in using the TP65 as a cymbal I might invest on a PCY65S, however the PCY130, 35, 55's are pretty expensive even used.
