Actually, last week I had a lot of trouble getting the MIDI notes to
trigger. I was close to pulling all of my hair out. It turns out that I
had a MIDI "routing" program running in the background. Instead of trying
to tweak it and get the settings right, I just killed it and got notes to
trigger. I didn't experiment any more than that. Thus, I'm sure you don't
need a special connection. Check to see if that is the case with you. MIDI
software settings can get a little hairy. Just when you think you've done
everything you can, you find one thing you overlooked. 

My next hurdle is to figure out how to send the timing data from the
sequencer to the DTXpress so that the click on the DTXpress matches the
sequencer. If anyone gets that one, please post!
