What a difference an amplifier makes! I picked up a little Crate amp so I could finally hear what the DTXpress sounds like through something other than headphones. Was I shocked! I spent hours tweaking all of my custom kits so they were tolerable through the amp. They sounded nothing like they did through headphones. Granted, I don't have a good amp, but wow! I suppose with a better amp that they would be ok for a small live gig, but I'm just not happy with the amplified sound. I just got back into drumming after a 15 year hiatus. I had figured that I would upgrade my DTXpress some more, perhaps getting a better kit altogether. But getting this amp just made up my mind. For practice, the eKits are great. For live, you need wood :) My next kit is going to be a small acoustic kit. I'll still swear by the DTXpress for practice, though. Jim ratzo@...
