The problem might be that the splitter is sending the same signal along both sides of the "Y." First, make sure that you're using a TRS splitter--that is, one that divides a stereo signal separately into tip and ring feeds inot the 9/10 input. Some stereo splitters sends a uniform signal along both branches.
