Re: Rejection Question..and a few more

Hi Jade,

I comment briefly below your questions:

Are you listening to the DTX through the Peavey? It should be able
to handle the signals without distortion if it's all right. If you
still get the distortion when you plug the phones directly into the
DTX module, the phones might be at fault--probably a loose
connection or a blown can. Crosstalk is neither static nor a high-
pitched squeal; crosstalk sounds exactly like the voice on the
affected pad, only fainter (in most cases). Static and squeal
suggest that something electronic is malfunctioning (squeal could be
feedback; do you have an open mike on the Peavey?). If you
disconnect the Peavey completely and rely solely on the DTX module
for all sound reproduction, do the naughty sounds go away? If so,
the Peavey is probably the culprit.

Rejection settings of 1 will not reject anything. If the snare sings
when you hit the hi hat, you must reject the hi hat specifically
from the snare (and/or vice versa)--most likely, in the 4 to 7
range, but maybe lower depending on your gain and min. vel.
settings. If the snare drops out when you hit it simultaneously with
the hi hat (or vice versa), then its specific rejection is set too
high to make its own noise. You have to find the mutually compatible
settings that allow your pads to work together.

Are you trying to get as loud as possible? Are you tweaking too much
without understanding the consequences? Start simple. Bring your
gains down to 60 or 70; your min. vels. to 40 or so; your rejections
to about 4--just to get started. You can fine-tune when you get the
feel of everything. Get two crosstalking pads in sync and then move
to another pair. I agree with your earlier observation: You have to
get more comfortable with the DTX's characteristics before you start
adding something like the midiKITI to your miseries. You have too
much going on at once. This caveat applies to the future Visu-lite
hi hat as well. It will certainly not make things easier for you if
they aren't easy now. Be patient. Ask simple questions. Know what
every basic function does. And before you know it, you'll be able to
handle any contingency.
