I keep the "chokeable" cymbal pad on my left as a crash, and I use the single-sound pad as my ride, so I don't get this problem. I find I need the crash choke more often than trying to choke a ride. In fact, on my acoustic set, I don't think I ever did choke a ride.. Maybe just a playing style thing. I can see using the chokable pad if you want to get two distinct sounds from the pad (rim ride and bell ride for example) but I have heard of people using the "natural" increased velocity of the pad closer to the bell to cause a velocity cross fade for ride cymbal bell at higher velocity to get a "fake" dual zone ride. :) Vern -- Vern Graner CNE/CNA/SSE | "If the network is down, then you're Senior Systems Engineer | obviously incompetent so why are we Texas Information Services | paying you?
