Re: [DTXpress] New DTXpress II owner onboard

Welcome Randall! You'll find many on here to help with questions. As for
some of the specific things from your post:

Though I use the pads that came with my DTXpress, the problems people
report over time have to do with wrist strain since the gum-rubber pads
don't "give" the way a stretched drum head does. This immediate "stop" to
the stick can leave your wrist/shoudlers sore after a long night of
gigging. Since I use my set just for fun/practice/recording all at home,
I haven't run into this.

As mentioned earlier, there is a learning curve for any new instrument,
the advantage of the DTXpress is that you can try and make *it* conform
to *you* by playing with a BUNCH of settings. Out of the box, I though
the HHat was too quiet and I had to put too much pressure on the pedal to
get a complete closed sound. played with some settings and now it does
perfect (for me) :)

Hey now, I used to cover some of their stuff! :) (yikes, dating myself
there.. hmm now where did I leave my parachute pants.. :) But seriously,
one of things you'll notice when you start to play with assigning sounds,
is that you can assign TWO sounds to one pad in "layers". So you could
use a deeper tom behind a thin/bright one to give it depth, then add a
bit of reverb and tweak the decay.. Presto barand new tom! In many cases
you can make some *very* cool sounding drums with just a little effort.
Also, take an evening, grab a beer and sit down to read the manual. ALL
of the manual! It will greatly help you in understanding whats going on.
Now, go back and read the last few sentences. They are VERY important to
getting the most out of your kit! :D

For more help, I suggest Giles Hearns excellent website here:

Loaded with good tips, tricks and down-loadable drum kits that others
have put together. Good luck and welcome to the group! :)
