Brett,

Yup, it's a midi channel and midi note thing. The drums sound that 
you're getting now from the pads are on channel 10. If you change 
the midi channel and the note number on any input to one of the 
channel/note number pairings listed in the back of the manual for 
the GM voices, you'll be able to make a standard midi keyboard 
sound. But you won't be able to do much more than that.
