RE: [DTXpress] Bass drum pad

2000-07-10 by sanctum@saqnet.co.uk

Wood splinters shouldn't harm the rubber pads, the rubber wll be more resiliant than you think.
As for the bass drum, I remember doing something similar with an old Simons kit back in the early nineties. I had problems with my bass location, so I wanted to move it out to one side. This meant it was "outside" the rack and only supported by one arm, end result was that I couldn't secure it strongly enough and it just rotated away from the bass pedal after a while, or took the pedal with it after I tried attaching both together.
So long as you get a good enough support to the pad, from two directions, then it should be fine, you may have a few peoblems with sensativity (too sensative) and I couldn't guarantee durability either. I also bet it would invalidate the warrantee. Your choice, try it and see how it goes.

This may sound a bit odd, but I was wandering if anyone has ever tried
using a one of the normal 8" pads as a bass drum pad. It occurs to me
that it wouldn't be that hard to hook up by sacrificing an aluminum arm
or two (or buying additions--keeping the kick in place may be a different
story). If no one has tried it out, I'll experiment with it and see how
it goes. Incidentally, I now have two drum triggers which I found easy
to hook up and use through the 9/10 jack. If anyone is considering
trying them out, I say go for it--they're fairly cheap and easy to use--a
good way to layer voices. One other thing: has anyone had trouble with
their drum sticks tearing up their rubber pads? It occurred to me that
the splinters on sticks that happen naturally while playing acoustically
may be able to harm the rubber. Anyone?
Peace,
Aaron
