Here I am, risking looking a complete twit again. However, the sun is 
not out and it's been raining, so hopefully my brain is cooler than 
yesterday.

Since the switch just modifies the sound produced by the brain in 
response to the piezo, rather than resulting in a sound on its own, 
that should not be true, should it? You should still get all the 
dynamics of the piezo, but with a different sound due to the switch 
being closed too. It seems to be backed up by my (admittedly limited) 
testing.
