One thing that I am doing is to use a PCY65S for the hihat pad, which with pad and rim triggers and layering, I can acheive more than the three basic sounds (open-mid-closed). My second hihat pad is setup in reverse (i.e. pedal up= closed hihat; pedal down = open hihat), so that I can double bass and hit either a constant beat on a open hat or a closed hat without touching a hihat pedal. I am still getting use to the difference between the acoustic version and the electronic version and have come to accept that they may never be the same (well maybe in ten years or so they might acheive a breakthrough, but....).
