New owner:Hi-Hat & Cymbal Adjustments & Amp recommendations

2003-05-15 by draker2003

Hi,

I am a new owner of a DTXpress kit -- pretty cool! This is a great
site - thanx to those who helped launch it. A couple of Q's:

1) Specifically, if anyone has it, how can you make the hi-
hat "schwooop" sound -- where you would on an acoustic set hit the hi-
hat, open, and there's a delayed schwoop sound, completed with a
clean, clear sound of the hi-hat closing. I've tried to adjust the
footpedal, and it often misses the closing sound -- and not nearly as
sensitive as it should be. I have upped the "sensitivity" settings,
but can't find any discernable difference. Ditto for any DTX model
adjustments. Please - provide settings -- as the manual was obviously
written by a techie who doesn't play drums. It would have been better
if they went drum pad by pad and told you how to dial in good sounds,
etc.

2) Any good amps that you would recommend? I saw a Behringer KX1200
advertised in Musician's Friend site -- 120W keyboard amp, 3-way bass
reflex cabinet housing 15" woofer, 5" midrange and tweeter. 4-channel
operation with line inputs and dedicated volume contrdols. 4-band
active EQ, too. price was $249 --- is this a reasonable amp to use?
Other brands/model recommendations? Has anyone tried to use a PA and
run monitors instead of a stand alone amp? If so, how? I have a
Mackie 808 PA that should have enough power if that's an option.

Thanks for anyone out there with input. Keep on rockin' - Draker2003
