Jade, My impression is that it is only intended to "correct" the choking issue and they would not be upgrading anything else. At this point I was told they would be sending me the updated chip(s). They did not indicate in any of the email correspondences with me that it would be an upgrade for all that have been sold. Since most people will not upgrade there kits to the extreme to which I have and thus would not really need it. They also did not give me a time table as when I should expect to receive the updated chips. So it could be days, weeks or months??? It will be interesting to see when the updated chips make their way into the production chain and start showing up in the new DTXPRESSII kits. (Hopefully before I do anymore upgrading.) But it is interesting that they refer to it as an "update ROM chip", as oppose to a, updated software patch for the ROM chip. If it could be update through a software upload to through the HOST or MIDI Port, then it would seem that adding/updating voices could also be easily possible. But since it is a chip...(unless somebody has access to eprom chip burner and can reverse engineer the ROM chip)...we will be left with what comes with the module. But what else would you expect, this is the least expensive e-drum out they, so you certainly can't expect it to perform like a DTXreme module or the Roland Td-10/tdw-1 that cost four times as much. I just think that it is really impressive to see their quick response to this issue, considering that the e-drum portion of their business probably represents less than 1/1000 of one percent of YAMAHA's total product line when you look at their total market of musical instruments, home audio, computer products, motor corporation division and automation divisions.
