Folks, for your info... Someone has posted 8 DTXpressII kits (with throne, kick pedal, 'phones and the crash book) with a buy-it-now price of $650 plus $49.50 delivery. Hey, OldGuy... you could go from phase IV through phase XI all in one go... Stewart

Let me run that through the wife interpetation module.......what did your last sentence really say..." Hey, OldGuy... you could go from death to the grave all in one..." On another note, I have been emailing back and forth with Yamaha Support about the cymbal choking issues with the DtxpressII on zones 1,3,4,5,6 (or the lack there of) and the last response was "a product engineer is coming by this week (last week), I will see if they are planning a operating system update and get you an answer...good or bad" OldGuyDrummer > -----Original Message----- > From: moosetication [SMTP:moosetication@...] > Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2003 7:24 AM > To: DTXpress@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [DTXpress] DTXpressII on eBay... > > Folks, for your info... > > Someone has posted 8 DTXpressII kits (with throne, kick > pedal, 'phones and the crash book) with a buy-it-now price of $650 > plus $49.50 delivery. > > Hey, OldGuy... you could go from phase IV through phase XI all in > one go... > > Stewart > > > > Yahoo! I presume the rim sound is still available with a cymbal on the stereo inputs, even if the choke is not there? 'Cos I've been thinking of moving tom 3 to join its brother tom 4 on 9/10, and using the tom 3 input for a stero cymbal. At least I'd then get three stereos on the kit, even if only two were chokeable. And getting hold of them in the UK is a pain... everywhere is quoting me 8 weeks. Might have a look around when I'm in NYC this week. Stewart

NEWS FLASH....NEWS FLASH. I just recieved a email from Martin at Yamaha support. They are in the process of acquiring an updated ROM chip for the DTXPRESSII module that will allow for choking on zones 1-8 and not just on zones 2,6,7. Roland would have never responsed in this honorable fashion. These guys at Yamaha are the best when it comes to responding the end user questions and issue. A million praises to Yamaha!!!!! Martin indicated that they will be mailing me the update ROM chips as soon as they are available. Yippie...Yippie... Oh, sorry, Stewart, I just got little carried away. The Yamaha emailed popped up in the middle of reading your response. Now back to your question. Yes the pad and rim will trigger on the PCY's on any of the zones 1-8. Choking will only function on zones 2, 6,7....for now. But actually all you really need to do is move the PCY65 (mono) to zone 4 since it does not have rim trigger anyway and put the new PCY65S on zone 7 (crash) and you will get pad, rim and choking!!!! You will need to change pad trigger types to the correct type also. You can still move the tom3 to 9/10 as planned. Yamaha's repsonsiveness does warm your heart, doesn't it? We gripe sometimes about the products--and we have to if we want a role in how they evolve--but we are lucky to have so good a relationship with the company. Dave, Dave, Martin, et al., if, by any chance you're reading these things, many thanks for your help. We really do appreciate it. That's how you build consumer loyalty. Be careful...it can be addictive...I have eight cymbals, five bells, three hihats, seven toms, two snares, two bass and a partridge in a pear tree and everytime I set down in front of my kit, I think "if I scoot this over a little, shift this up a little, I think I can squeeze one more.....in here and one more in there....stop while you can...........nooooooooooooooo. It's funny you should mention that. I got a dose of tweak-itis at the weekend. A simultaneously useful and frustrating aspect of the e- drum game is how easy it is to tweak the layout. After all, they're not heavy or hard to release. Back in the bad old days (before even racks were commonplace) tweaking the setup was decidedly hard work. Loosening a tom mount could end up with it falling and damaging your bass drum, and dropping an 18" ride on your foot was never much fun. But after a couple of hours of tweaking my e-drum layout (and inch here, and inch there), and deciding it wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be... I couldn't remember *exactly* where the damn things were in the first place. Newbies, be warned... when you have a layout you're initially happy with, either write it down or take pictures before you too end up (as Freddie Mercury once put it) going slightly mad... Stewart

I know exactly what U mean,I bought an
extra tom I was constantly moving things around for two days I was
not happy with the positioning, once I moved it I was getting cross
talk from other pads,it can be a headache but if you are willing to
persevere and take the time to MAKE it right, then its well worth
it,I have also added a Roland SPD-6,which gave off some bad
crosstalk, but thats all sorted now.And soon I`m gonna add another
Cymbal and thats my FINAL upgrade on the kit.......UNLESS!!!!!!

All I can say is THANK YOU JESUS!!! I was wondering if a chip could be upgraded, after all, you could upgrade the Midi Kiti according to the KAT Midi Kiti manual. This is GREAT NEWS!!! I WONDER if this chip will have more available drum...specifically cymbal/hi hat sounds? Jade, My impression is that it is only intended to "correct" the choking issue and they would not be upgrading anything else. At this point I was told they would be sending me the updated chip(s). They did not indicate in any of the email correspondences with me that it would be an upgrade for all that have been sold. Since most people will not upgrade there kits to the extreme to which I have and thus would not really need it. They also did not give me a time table as when I should expect to receive the updated chips. So it could be days, weeks or months??? It will be interesting to see when the updated chips make their way into the production chain and start showing up in the new DTXPRESSII kits. (Hopefully before I do anymore upgrading.) But it is interesting that they refer to it as an "update ROM chip", as oppose to a, updated software patch for the ROM chip. If it could be update through a software upload to through the HOST or MIDI Port, then it would seem that adding/updating voices could also be easily possible. But since it is a chip...(unless somebody has access to eprom chip burner and can reverse engineer the ROM chip)...we will be left with what comes with the module. But what else would you expect, this is the least expensive e-drum out they, so you certainly can't expect it to perform like a DTXreme module or the Roland Td-10/tdw-1 that cost four times as much. I just think that it is really impressive to see their quick response to this issue, considering that the e-drum portion of their business probably represents less than 1/1000 of one percent of YAMAHA's total product line when you look at their total market of musical instruments, home audio, computer products, motor corporation division and automation divisions. Hey Oldguy, I too was impressed by Yamaha's Customer Service. I have been able to talk directly with Dave Ksycki-he's head of sales, I think (he knows what's in the warehouse) and Dave Jewell, who is head of marketing. I had the "upgrade bug" too, and didn't wanna invest $400 in another DTXII module for my extra cymbals and pads (I will be getting more pads in the future) so I was directed to get either a MidiKiti or PM-16. I found a Midi Kiti, but I couldn't get drum voices to sound-I got keyboard-even when BOTH modules were on Ch 10...MIDI Voices ( I wanted to take a ride cymbal voice from the DTX and send it to the Kiti where I had my ride plugged in to, and all I got was a honking noise)...It was MIDI HELL...even the guys in the group were stumped...we, as group thought there was a problem w/the DTX module. Other guys were beginning to have the same problem as me, specifically with the PM-16. To make a LONG story short, I was referred to Dave Jewell (via Dave Ksycki), Mr Jewell said he would have their top MIDI DTX guru, Martin, call me. If he couldn't fix the problem I was having, then they thought there could possibly be a flaw in the modules (meaning ALL DTXII modules!!!!). If that was the case, Dave Jewell would contact the engineer of the DTX module in Japan-he told me the man's name, but I can't remember it. Well, the very next day, Martin called me, and we went thru all the MIDI set up...for one thing I had 2 MIDI In/Out cords...I only needed 1, and because the Midi Kiti and the DTX module were set to Ch10, he walked me thru on how to troubleshoot MIDI portions on the DTX module. The next thing he had me do was a Factory Reset...and guess what?....It fixed the problem! I was VERY impressed with Yamaha's Customer Support, and yes, the DO know and watch our forum...we have clout. WHAT other e-drum company cares about their customers like Yamaha? Roland is a nightmare, if ya read their posts on vdrums.com Needless to say, I ended up buying another DTXII module. It was too frustrating leaving the Midi Kiti on all the time...if ya shut it off, you would have to re-program it. The Midi Kiti is a great piece of equipment...fun to work with, and "train"...considering it was made in the 80's, it was very far advanced technically. That is how I know a chip can upgrade a module. In the Kiti manual it shows how to install and upgrade the Kiti. I am trying to sell the Midi Kiti-so if ya know of anyone who wants to expand their kit-point them my way. I am anxiously waiting for the NEW DT Extreme module, I may be selling my new DTXII modules. Before I forget....I LOVE your kit-totally awesome!! Sorry so long winded! Jade, One thing that may have been lost in all our posts about the midiKITI is that you don't have to leave it on all the time or lose your settings. You just have to save them. as you would with the Yamaha. I leave mine connected all the time because at my age, I don't like bending down to plug it in. Besides, I like the flashing lights in Midi Note mode. Ed --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, Jade <jadiebooshkie@y...> wrote: > > > Hey Oldguy, > I too was impressed by Yamaha's Customer Service.
