I actually have two of my cymbals setup as two different voices. In other
words, the pad is assigned a layered rock/ride voice and the edge is
assigned as a crash. So that if I strike the edge on a fill, I get a crash
sound and still can use the pad portion as a ride cymbal. The neat thing
about this arrangement is while doing steady ride pattern, I can slighty
adjust the angle of the stick and strike the edge and get a crash
highlighting sound every second/third/fourth note. Try doing that with an
acoustic set!!! But you idea for setting a hihat pedal for multiple cymbal
sounds, is similar to what I want to try with effects sounds since you can
end up with multiple sounds ( pad w/pedal up, edge w/pedal up, pad w/pedal
down, pad w/pedal up, footsplash) which I guess could also be doubled up by
layer one sound by lightly hitting the pad and another sound by hitting it
hard. So potentially you could create up 9 different sounds with a
PCY65S/HH65 combo.
