Another alternate to the snare/hihat problem is to use the alternate
mounting location for the hi-hat that is shown in the DTXPRESSII manual,
which is to mount it on the same tube as the module. This will provide more
than adequate separation between the two pads, so that crosstalk is
completely eliminated and specific rejection settings can be reduced.

The way I worked the bugs out of the crosstalk issue was to look at the
graphic on the module lcd screen while I hit a pad as hard as I expected to
normally hit it and watch to see if any of the other zones indicated a
triggering, since it may be so slight on the adjacent pads, that the sound
may not be noticed, but the graphic will show it. I then adjusted the
specific rejections, until they where eliminated. I also changed from the
DTXPRESSII cymbal mounting clamp to a Gilbraltor multiclamp and added a
rubber insert between the cymbal arm and the clamp, which for me has
eliminated some of the crosstalk I was getting.

Your third question on choking, unfortunately I think comes down to
technique. I don't remember if you said what type of pad you are using for
the crash. The basic DTXPRESSII comes with a PCY65S for a ride cymbal that
has pad and edge triggering with choking and a PCY65 for the crash that has
pad triggering only. I have never had a problem with a PCY65 shunting
itself, which is a problem with the PCY65S and PCY80S. Maybe Yamaha can fix
this problem too in the future.
