Russel,

One of the problems I noticed right away when I purchased my DtxpressII was
the volume issue. I was constantly increasing the volume of individual pads
until everyone was between 110 and 127 just to listen through head phones
with an aux tape feed coming in. Even after buying a small preamp and mixer,
I got the volume needed but didn't get the right balance. So my solution was
to turn everything down and start over. I took one of my kits and lowered
the volume of each pad down to 70. I then adjusted the pads that I whated to
highlight up and let the amplifier do what it's designed to do...AMPLIFY the
overall sound level to the headphones/amp. The difference was incredible.
Now instead of getting a 27% boost in sound level from pad to another (100
vs 127 volume level), I was able to get a 78% boost in sound level for a
particular pad over another (70 vs 127). So now my closed hihat, bell pad,
snare rim shots really stands out when I want it to. I set one kit with a
more balanced level between pads and the next one up the accented pads set
at a higher level.
