Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

I would guess that the pedal noise is going into the floor and 
shaking the whole apartment. Yes, I think a softer beater would help.
Also, you might want to put the whole set on a carpet or foam pad. 

Or perhaps you need to do your drumming between 1:00-2:00 a.m. :)
