Bass amp with DTXpressII?

Bass amp with DTXpressII?

2004-08-06 by Farkus Gwenadon

I'm looking at renting an amp for a few days for use with my DTXPress
II. They were all out of keyboard amps, but told me that a bass amp
would work well, too. It's a 100W amp (don't know the model), and I
was assured that it would be able to handle the range from cymbals
through to bass drum. The salesperson hooked one of the bass guitars
up to it, and played a bit. It sounded fantastic... at least with the
bass guitar. They didn't have an e-kit set up to test it with.

Has anyone here used a bass amp for their e-drums before? Is there
anything I should know before I take this one home with me? I just
don't wanna throw away the 30 bucks it'll cost me to rent it.

Thanks!

And sales people never lie, right? ;) If you want to hear it full-range,
hook a walkman or a small CD player up to it and listen to the high
frequency. This is what you will lose with a bass-only amp. They are not
designed to produce frequencies above, oh lets say 8 to 10 khz? There
really isnt much bass to produce up above 8khz, except fingering noise..

As for the amp, 100watts seems light to me. I would imagine you would
exhaust the caps in the amp on each kick leaving not much power for
mids-highs. Myself, if you're only renting, I would rent what as close to
what I would consider buying and that way I could see what it sounded
like "in action". Just my $0.02 :)

Thanks for the reply. That's actually a good idea, I'll take my MP3
player with me tomorrow and ask if I can hook it up to the amp. If
it's bareable I'll probably get it.
I'm not actually in the market for buying an amp yet, but my friend is
coming over with his new guitar and we wanted to jam together. I just
need something for a few days while I'm in my hometown, since I'll be
going back to apartment life (ie., headphone life) in a week.

Thanks again!

How about a pad, your module and power supply.

Couldn't you move the pad between inputs or reassign it to
check out the range of frequencies with the real thing ?
