tuning pitched MIDI voices

tuning pitched MIDI voices

2004-08-07 by gwork2000

Tuning native voices allows increments of 1.17 cents (Tune Fine
setting). Perhaps I'm missing something, but tuning MIDI voices only
allows half step increments it seems. Do I have to use some external
computer/keyboard to get greater control of pitch for MIDI?

The case where this came up was I was using the MIDI "tubular bell"
setting for chimes in a show, when the Music Director suggested that
the intonation wasn't quite on. We ended up cutting the part because
I couldn't get it in tune with the keyboard.

Thanks in advance,

Galen

Ok. I think I've found it. Tuning the MIDI voices isn't done in the
Voice Edit mode where all the other voice settings are done for MIDI
and non-MIDI voices (silly me). It appears to be done in the Utility
Mode. I haven't tried it yet, but many of the same functions that
are in the Voice Mode and targeted at built-in voices are the Utility
Mode specifically for MIDI voices, according the manual. I need to
read more and talk less.

I'll tell you, if this gets any easier....
