I tried an Express III kit in the store and the headphone output was pretty low. I had it at full volumn and it was just comfortable for easy listening. Occasionally, I might want to crank it up, and there was no headroom to do that. Is this typical for an EXPress III module? TomBrooklyn

Even with the pads all set at 127 and the kit volume set at 127, you still may not find the volume to be enough, even though many folks do. It just depends on what type of music you are playing along with. One thing to consider is that the headphones in the store are probably not the best at isolation and may not even be closed back, so that you would still here the strikes on the drum pads. With easy listening music, a good set of headphones maybe all you need. Others have picked up a small headphone amplifier or if you pickup an amplifier/monitor, you can simply run the module through the amplifier/monitor and plug you headphones into the amp, and get more than enough volume for play even the hardest rock. My AKGs are plenty loud- different phones have different impedances and efficiency. It can be as simple as matching the headphones to the unit. I have Byerdynamic 880s at home. BTW, they're the best sounding headphones I've ever listened to this side of $2000 Stax electrostatics. Come to think of it, it might not be a bad idea to take my own headphones with me when I go shopping again. I'm not sure what the impedance on them is. Unless I'm mistaken, the lower the impedance, the more power they will suck out of the source. There efficiency would make a difference too I suppose, if they're like loudspeakers. Plugging them into an amp like oldguydrummer said would probably work too anyway. I hadn't thought about that. I am shopping for my first ekit now. Tom
