PC Midi Lead

2005-02-03 by rav4t3

Hello Folks,
Well after blatting and biffing my new DTXpress3 for a few months
now I want to try downloading/loading some extra kits. I have tried
in vain to get hold of the "special" data lead but after touring the
usual retail outlets I have so far been met by blank looks and
shrugging of shoulders.
Do I really have to go direct to Yamaha and pay god knows what.
Do any of you guys out there know where I can get the lead in
question, Oh and by the way does the P.C. end have to be a serial
port plug, I would prefer a USB.
Cheers for now.

Alan,

If you're talking about the 'To Host cable' you can get it here:
http://kellysmusic.mb.ca/productinfo.asp?id=1316491086

I've been using it successfully. You can only use a serial connection. If
you want USB I suggest you get a USB midi adapter for your PC and then use
standard MIDI cable. The 'To Host' cable has a maximum length of 6 feet.
I've put an extension on mine effectively making it 12 feet and I
occasionally get drop outs and MIDI lockups so 6 feet really is the max! You
will need the driver for the using the To Host Cable and it is available
here: http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/software/s_serial.htm

Good luck.

P.S. That cable requires that the switch on the back of your module be set
to 'PC-2'

Alan,

Why not just make a MIDI connection? If you don't have a soundcard
that permits it, you could always get a Soundblaster type that
accepts a MIDI adaptor on the joystick port for not much money, or
you could get a small MIDIman USB MIDI interface and do it that way.
I've heard that Yamaha's To Host cable is hard to find.
