Comparison of DTXPress kits

Comparison of DTXPress kits

2005-02-25 by Anderson, Rick

I'm fairly new to this group. I've played the Roland TD-7 for years,
but it was the church's set and I want to buy my own set. I've done
some brand comparisons and I'm kind of sold on the DTXpress. You may
have covered this in the past, but what's the comparison, say between
the DTX 2 and the DTX 3 (not the the Special, just the basic model)?
Anybody have preferrences? Anybody have links for pages I might look
at? I may have opened a big can of worms, but isn't that what
discussion lists are all about? <GRIN>

Thanks,

Rick Anderson

Rick,

Yes, we have gone into great detail about the latest kits. If you run
a search of the archives on "DTXpressIII," you should find a great
deal of discussion from last year. However, I will tell you that the
the II and IIISTD are quite similar. The main advantage of the III is
that some of its cymbal sounds derive from Yamaha's Mofif line,
though not everyone finds them worth the cost of admission.
Otherwise, the two configurations are nearly identical. So far as the
upgrade path goes, each is capable of the latest three-sound snare
(which the II already includes) and cymbals, as well as the latest hi
hat on a separate stand. In general, a II in good condition at a good
price won't suffer much in comparion to the IIISTD at all.
