to host?

2005-06-07 by djxeode

Just found this invaluable information rescource looking on the
internet had no idea there would be a website dedicated to my new drumkit!

The reason i was looking on the internet in the first place if for
information about the kit, the following is the message I posted on
the dtxpressions site.

Simple question that I cant seem to find an answer to anywhere! is
there a simple cable i can get that will plug the DTXIII (from the 5
pin miniDIN I assume) to a USB or do I need to get a MIDI interface
for my PC?

Alot of new hardware is increasingly comeing USB enabled and can be
used via USB or MIDI and I was wondering if the DTXIII is one of them.
Thanks alot in advance as im hoping i wont have to buy a midi interface!

You should be able to use Yamaha's UX16 interface, which has MIDI
in/out feeds on one end and a USB feed on the other ($50). Yamaha
also has the UX96 interface, which, I believe, offers both a To Host
connection and MIDI in/out docks on one side and the USB connection
on the other ($80) (you'd have to supply your own cables). If you
can'f find either of those, you could always buy a cheap MIDIman USB
interface.

Thanks alot for your response, it confirmed my worst fears. i have a
midiman interface on order as we speak (apparently its now m-audio).
Was hoping the new dtx would have pc compatibility built in like some
other midi hardware and prahaps that was what the to host connection
was for. (it mentioned having to switch a switch if you were going to
use a pc or a mac etc etc so i just assumed.....anyway thanks for your
help!)

The switch allows you to use a serial port rather than a MIDI
interface to communicate to the DTXpress, but not a USB. You need a
MAC "null modem" cable I think.

Keith.
