Maybe someone has happened across Yamaha voices and settings that can
approximate certain types of kits, but that's not the strong suit of
the DTXpress. The old ddrum module, however, which is based on an
entirely different system of triggers and samples, has numberous such
programming options--one of them, in fact, being a vintage Ludwig
kit. Ddrum's huge library also features entire kits belonging to
contemporary drummers. Despite the ddrum's age and its outdated
computing facilities, its sonic qualities are impeccable. Drummers
not in need of huge kits or full MIDI functionality might find ddrum
more satisfying for some of their needs than a Yamaha or Roland, with
all due respect.
