Layering Hihat on my DTX3

Layering Hihat on my DTX3

2006-09-24 by dronsb

Hi guys,

I`m very pleased with my new set (dtxpress3 special) but I have one
thing that annoys me a little: The Hihat. Is there a way to layer,
modify or whatsoever the sounds so that I could get a more constant
sound while opening it? Right now I can raise the pedal to a certain
position and suddenly the module switches the sound from HHclose to
HHopen for example. Although I understand this technically I wonder
wether there might be a way to smoothen this out?

greetings,
Wolfgang

Wolfgang,

You should be able to get a fairly progressive change from closed to
open (well, around 5 levels anyway). Is the hihat set up correctly in
the trigger menu? It should be set up as type RHH for the RHH130 on
the special kit.

Wolfgang,

Unfortunately I don't have the special kit, but I do know that some
people have had problems because the hihat is not set as the correct
type. Press shift+trigger to get into the trigger edit menu. Hit the
hihat and the display should say "TRIG IN=8". Underneath it should
say "Type= RHH" if it doesn't then you need to change it.

The other settings related to the hihat are on page 14 of the
reference manual: HH OffS=xx and T=xx. The offset may help adjust
where your foot needs to be for a specific sound between closed and
open. The time T is the splash detect time which doesn't sound like
your problem, but will need adjusting if you are having trouble
getting the foot splash, or get it too often.

Keith.
