Finally got a HH pedal that works

Finally got a HH pedal that works

2006-09-26 by bncarty

I had posted a while ago about getting my non-yamaha HH pedal to work
with my new DTX, but had no luck. Well, I finally got an HH-60 off
ebay and it arrived last night. Very cool to have the open, closed and
splash sounds. After a little fooling aound with layers and such, it
sounds pretty good.

However, I do have one question though: On the Yamaha web site it says
that the HH-60 has Fully open, closed, half-open, and foot splash.
What I can't figure out is how to get the half-open sound. I get the
open, closed, and splash, but don't seem to get an "in-between" half
open sound, nor do I see a voice setting for this. It's not a big
deal, but it would be cool to have that too. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
Thanks

Huh- another one who`s a little bit p.... about Yamahas HH`s, well,
welcome to the club!
Not sure wether you`re relating to the DTX2.0 or to a DTXpress?
Anyway: I could never get an half opened sound out of my DTX2.0 either
although I`ve found some sites on the net that stated the modul to
have continuous HH?! I had the HH60 as well and got exactly what
you`ve got so far, looks like it`ll be all you get, pal!

Wolfgang

Seems to be the day for hihat problems! The "HH OffS" setting is the
one you need to adjust (page 14 of the DTXpress III reference manual).

Thanks Keith. I've only had it for one night now, so I'm still
playing around with the settings. Unlike the other poster, I'm
thrilled with my new HH60.
Considering my old peddle and module only did open and closed with
NO splash, this is amazing for me. I only have the DTXpress 1, but
I'm happy with it. If I can get any other HH sounds, it will just
be a bonus.

Brian,

For the DTXpress I, see page 29 of the reference manual (section 1-5).

With just a little tweaking, the old HH60 works like a charm: open,
partially closed, closed and splash...Excellent! It does take a bit
of fiddling, but it's worth the effort. Thanks again.

I'm pleased you got there in the end. One other thing, there is
actually a physical adjustment at the front of the pedal - it uses a
drum key. I cannot remember why I adjusted mine now, but it may have
been because I seemed to have to press rather hard to get the closed
sound.
