Sherpa Snare how to?

Sherpa Snare how to?

2007-01-21 by steve_in_ottont

Hi,

I bought a Sherpa snare to replace the standard one on my DTXpress
III. I read the document in the files about setting up the Sherpa but
I'm still at a loss as to how I plug both outputs from the snare into
the brain without losing a tom or cymbal. Can the rim output be fed
into the kick input? if so, has anyone got this to work? I've tried it
and so far can't get a sound out of the rim. Help would be appreciated!

...Steve

Steve,

I am not familiar with the Sherpa, but it seems to be a dual piezo pad
so it needs two inputs. If you want to feed the second pad through
the kick, then the kick needs to be plugged into input 9/10. I am not
sure there is any benefit to doing it that way - just plug the second
piezo of the Sherpa into 9/10 anyway and leave the kick on input 1.

Keith.

Steve,

I wrote that review three years ago. I can't remember everything that
I experienced with the Sherpa, but I can assure that you can't use the
Sherpa effectively without tapping two inputs. The most convenient two
would be 9/10 on the Xpress modules; any other pair would waste
the "stereo" potential. I also can assure you that I labored long and
hard to get a usable signal from the rim. As I tried to make clear in
the review, while being fair to Sherpa, that the DTXpress module is by
no means tailormade for this pad. The kick input theoretically should
work as well as any other on the module, provided that you're not
trying to use the one that functions as an extra extra input, for
which you need to program the module. SOmeone else can help you there;
I've forgotten what that entails.
