Passing the torch

Passing the torch

2008-02-14 by oldguydrummer

To All:

I have had a great deal of pleasure over the years as moderator of
this group, but I feel that since my direction has moved more toward
the Roland gear, it is now time to pass the torch.

I have enjoyed the banter back and forth over the years with other
members here, some new and some long since gone. I will continue to
try and drop by to read post from time to time. I think that since
Keith was made a moderator here, he has been the guiding light of the
group and it is being left in good hands.

Would imagine that Keith would want to reach out and ask if anybody
else here wants to help as a moderator, but will leave that call up
to him.

I am leaving and "officially" donating all of the photos I have taken
of the insides of the various pads to this group.

Good luck to all past, present and future owners of the Dtxpress.

Well I have to say thank you for your time and effort in the position you have been in as mod of this group. I am fairly new to the group but I read most all of the posts that come my way and I am glad to be a part of it. This group is very knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck with the Roland group if that is where you are heading and take care. Again, thank you for your time.

Thanks Rob. This has always been an excellent group thanks to you - I
was a member even before I bought my first drumstick. I am not sure
how safe things are in my hands - my knowledge starts and ends with
the DTXpress III. It would certainly be useful to have another
moderator, at the very least to give cover for when I am away and also
to cover the areas I know nothing about e.g. midi. A USA based
moderator is useful to ensure rapid approval of initial posts (I am in
the UK). If anyone is interested, let me know.

Keith.

I know I'm not an active member at all, but I've been a member since right before the DTXpressIII was for sale (got a good deal on the DTXpressII) I was also a member before owning the drumset.

If there was a kit that everyone wanted, it was OGD's, at those times deafdrummer was a very active member of this forum until she got in a serious rock band I think, I used to go by theguywithnoeye for no reason at all..... who was the one using liberatusvirus as screen name?

Oh well, I wanted to say thanks Rob.

Cheers!

Pedro,

I posted as liberatusvirus (a Latin transcription of my last name,
not a computer disease). Rob and I have been discussing the best
interests of the group with Keith. It's time for me to pass along
ownership of the group as well. I've offered it to Keith. I hope that
he takes it. He's done a terrific job on the board, and his technical
qualifications for dealing with electronics are impeccable. In time,
I'm sure that he'll get the MIDI bug, the recording bug, and many of
the other bugs that drummers of all kinds can catch. Part of the fun
of heading the group is having the opportunity to learn from other
people's experiences. I think that I can safely say that Rob and I
have had a great run at DTXpress and that we're grateful to have
someone like Keith take the torch for us. People will continue to
come and go here; let's hope that DTXpress can thrive well into the
future. Good luck, everyone.

Ed

Thanks ogd Rob
I really appreciate what you've done...moderating this group. This
place sure was a help when I didn't have any idea what I was doing
and there was no where else to turn for answers!

Passing the torch

2008-02-15 by Keith

Well, it is a sad day for me to see oldguydrummer and liberatusvirus
leave as moderators of this group. I have been a member for around 5
years I think, before I even started drumming, so this group is part
of my life. However, things change and I hope I can build on their
legacy.

I have invited Cat to join me as a moderator, partly because she
wanted to breathe new life into the DTXplorer group. However, I think
that group will not survive and I think her effort would be more
rewarding here and so I have expanded the group description to include
the DTXplorer.

Also, while Yamaha now have the DTXpressions web site and forum I
think we still have a lot to offer here. I notice quite a few posts
pass without a reply over there, and there are also subjects that they
will presumably be reluctant to comment on, such as putting Roland and
Pintech pads on a Yamaha module. Also, I doubt they have pictures of
almost every component of the kit dismantled - thanks to
Oldguydrummer for that.

I will always try to make sure all posts get answered but I have some
holes in my knowledge and rely on the group for their experiences
anyway. I don't think there is a "typical" drummer and I don't think
I am one, so we need everyone's contributions.

With Cat joining us, this has now become a UK based group. That was
not my intention and is just coincidnnce, and I would like at least
one moderator from the USA or South America or somewhere else, to
cover time shifts for approving posts and to provide local knowledge
of where to buy things. So, if anyone fancies having a go, drop me an
email - I would like this group to stay global.

I also wondered if there is room for discussions related to drumming!

Anyway, here's to looking forward, with many thanks to Ed & Rob for a
wonderful legacy.

Happy drumming all.

Keith.

Many thanks for the invitation and for the introduction to the group!

I too would love to see the discussions here expanded to topics on drumming
skills and techniques, as well as discussions on the music we play with our
e-drums, and not just those on the subject of specifically Yamaha kits.

I too would like to explore the world of alternative, pattern, bespoke and
DIY pads. I've heard a lot about the Pintech range but never had the chance
to try any out as yet. I have a Roland kit at the moment but would like to
explore the world of Yamaha modules amongst others, especially as I've been
lucky enough to test out a prototype electronic kit from an entirely
different manufacturer recently.

There's lots to cover and a whole heap more to learn. So here's to
"Xplor-ing" the world of e-drums from the Yamaha perspective and
"Xpress-ing" ourselves in this family-friendly and all-welcoming online
community.

Sorry ... I just couldn't resist! ;-)

Regards,
Cat Lake

but I hope she's doing ok and rocking out somewhere on the groups! :-)
