DRUM SOFTWARE

2009-08-20 by bigbearstyx

Awaiting HD-1 drum tutor with it's UM-1G USB-MIDI interface cable.
And more software soon to follow..Ezdrummer or alike for new sounds.!
Question:
`Will this interface cable UM-1G USB-MIDI simply hook the DTX Brain right up to my computor & software via USB..? or does my sound card (5yrs old) play a part in all this. ?
`2nd question is~ why do some folks talk about using a trigger I/O (like alesis) with drum software? isn't that what the DTX Brain is- a trigger...? sorry still a newbie..

As far as I know, the Alesis is just a trigger - it has no sounds - so without a computer it will be very quiet. The DTXpress is dual function - it has its own sounds but by plugging it into a computer with MIDI you can also trigger drum software (and therefore get different sounds) as well as record. What you record through MIDI is not the actual DTXpress sounds - just what you hit and when, but you could use an audio recorder for recording the actual DTXpress sounds.

I don't have the UM-1G, but I have a USB-MIDI interface and you just plug the midi into the DTXpress and the USB into your computer - the soundcard isn't involved. If your soundcard has a MIDI interface then you probably don't need the UM-1G - just a MIDI-MIDI cable.

Make sure you set the DTXpress midi channel number to 10 (DevNo in the Utility section of the DTXpress menus).

Also, MIDI IN & OUT can be confusing - you can end up having to plug the IN cable into the OUT ... or not depending on the device labelling.

Make sure the HOST SELECT switch on the back of the module is set to MIDI.
