DYXpress (orange) Everything except bass drum plays through the headphones.

DYXpress (orange) Everything except bass drum plays through the headphones.

2013-06-17 by stiernj

I have lost my bass drum sounds. I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I even bought a new sensor and cord. I've reset the unit to factory settings. I've turned up the volume on the sensor and the orange box. I get sound when I plug in and unplug the cord. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? I'm unschooled on all the jargon in the manual, but am trying to plod through it. Thank you. Jeff

Keith:
A bass drum sound happens when I plug in and unplug. I've hooked up the snare drum pad to the #one (bass drum) plug in, and get a very light bass drum sound when I tap it. I bought a new bass drum sensor piece, and get nothing from it, until I plug in or unplug, then just the plug ins.
I'm wondering if its there but its too soft to hear. I've tried turning up the know on the sensor itself and pushing shift and turning the click volume knob, but no success. I use a very cheap set of headphones and have no amp yet. I don't know what a PCB is. Thank you!

A factory reset usually sorts things out. What sound do you get when you unplug the cable? A kick drum sound? It is possible that there is a bad connector or connection where the connector solders on the PCB.

Jeff,

Which version of the DTXpress is it? Under the display it will say DTXpress or DTXpress II etc.

A factory reset should have set the values you might have screwed up back to something normal so I still suspect a hardware problem. PCB is "Printed Circuit Board". The jack socket in the module is soldered to a PCB in the box and repeated use could break that connection or the socket could be damaged. Does wiggling the connector make it sporadically work (not unplugging it - just moving it up/down or side to side)?

Keith:
DTExpress. I tried wiggling the connector, and no results. I at first worried that I had inadvertantly and ignorantly muted the bass drum somehow, without reading the manual. I have been referring to the online version of the manual. I've spot read, not read thoroughly, the manual.
Thanks for your replies!

      Jeff,

Just a long shot - check the little attenuator switches on the back of the module.

A Million Thank Yous!!!! Thanks to you (who got and kept me focused), its fixed. I hear a bass drum! I used the new cord which came with the new bass drum sensor unit to plug one end into the other (output) side of the pedal sensor and read the quickie part of the manual to adjust the volume of that jack (#1) up and Have Sound!! Thank you thank you!! I owe you.

To use the input jack on the bass drum pad (KP-65) to add a pad
downstream of the bass drum pad requires a stereo cable between the
module and the bass drum pad and then a mono cable from the bass drum
pad to the downstream pad. If a mono cable is used between the module
and the bass drum pad the input jack on the bass pad is not functional.

The sound you get when plugging the jack into/out of the input is just a
shorting most likely.
