click track to headphones only

click track to headphones only

2002-01-20 by dpinder123

I am new to the group and three days into my dtxpress kit. So far
it's been a blast. So many questions so little time...anyhooo..one
big disappointment so far--I'm not able to play the click track
through the headphones while sending the pad sounds to an external
monitor. I glanced through previous posts and it appears it cannot
be done. If anyone has configured this to work please post a "how
to." I'd be really disappointed if this cannot be done--I assumed it
was possible.

Does anyone know if this is the case with the Roland V-club kit?

Unfornately, I have looked for the option too, but it'is not possible. A
solution would be to have external click with an input where you plug the
headphone output so the click signal would not come into the brain(you would
plug your headphones in the click output). Another solution would be to
record your drum track as a midi track in the internal sequencer and then
replay the recorded track without the click(be carefull of the quanticize
option).
A lot of softwares have an internal click which can be usefull in this case.

That's unfortunate...it seems to me this should be a "given" for any
electronic drum kit. Someone at Yamaha "dropped the ball" on this
feature.

I'm new to MIDI so will have to do a little research. I've "perused"
Giles Hearne's site--it has great info on MIDI but just need to delve
into MIDI info big time.

Do other drum brains do this??
I seem to remember having to pipe in clicktracks because people
other than the drummer needed to hear them, but without the drums mixed
in and generally the click came from an external seqencer doing more than
just playing midi, like lights and fx.. just my .02 cents.

but then again in my day there were only 5 channels on tv...

I have DTX V2 and it is possible. Some of the settings are similar to
DTXpress maybe it applies there to, so just in case here is how it is
done with DTXV2:
In [UTILITY] under [SEQ] sub-section one of the parameters is
ClickOut and you can send clicks to main, aux, L or R (there is
no "none" option though).

Hey--that sounds like it may work..so which parameter is used in
DTXV.2--i.e. main,aux, L or R--again assuming I have my headphones in
the headphone jack of the dtxpress sound module.

Re: click track to headphones only

2002-01-31 by okant

Wow! It's been a week since I promised this; I am ashamed (had a busy
week).

Anyway, here is how it's done with DTXV2:
1) In [UTILITY][SEQ] set click to MainL+R (default)
2) In same menus set MaToAux On (this send every sound except click
to aux out).
3) Connect DTXV2 Aux out to your amp.

Your headphones will play everything plus click, your amp (using aux
out) will play everything minus click.

It seems that for you DTXPress owners this probably will not work,
because it only has one output.

One not particularly desirable option would be: Check if you can
direct click to MainL (left) or MainR (right). Then setup your unit
to send every sound to other channel and only connect you amp using
that channel. You'll lose stereo this way.
