Need more songs to play along to..... :)

Need more songs to play along to..... :)

2002-04-01 by burtonizer_2000

Hi all,

Just joined the group after reading how darned helpful you all are!
Wish I would have found you months ago! At least I now know what
headphones to buy to take care of my volume problem, but I do have
something else I am needing help with.....

I am looking at either trying to find a audio software program that
can take the drum track out of a downloaded or converted mp3 or wav
song file...something realitivily inexpensive would be great!!

or.........

Is there a website where a person can download tunes to play along to
that already have the drum track removed? I have found one, it's:

http://216.103.111.115/perl/drums/index.cgi?WebPage=jamtracks

but, there are only two songs there.....at least you'll get the jist
of what I am looking for.

Thanks ever so ~ I am really getting tired of the songs that came
with the DTXpress! :)

There's no very efficient software to cut the drum track of a wav or mp3
file since in these songs, all the tracks are already mixed together. But it
is very easy with a midi file. If you have a midi software, edit the song
and mute the drum track (it is often on the channel 10). Otherwise, you can
buy a midi cable plugged in the joystick port, it is not expensive, then you
will be able to play the song you want through the dtxpress brain and with
the mute option, the drum track won't be heard. Besides, you will be able to
save your kits on your pc, upload new kits and record yourself in a midi
file...
Moreover, midi files are very small files so you can download them very
fastly, and there are thousands of free midi files on the internet.
Other questions?

Wow ~ thanks so much for the quick reply! :)

Yes, I do have another question. I do have Cakewalk so I have the
ability of muting drum parts, but where do I get songs in Midi format
that don't sound kind of hokey? Can I convert another file format to
Midi successfully and then mute the drums?

My goal is to play along with other songs that may be popular; not
record my drum playing (at this point anyway!). So, if I wanted to
play along with a Rush song or an Elton John song, I could, without
hearing the existing drums in the song.....make sense? Is this
possible?

Thank you Vivien!

Softwares which convert wav or mp3 files to midi files don't really exist.(I
have found some freewares but the results are very bad.) But it is not a
problem since it is not very usefull. Popular songs can be found easily as
midi files. I don't know very much about midi file sites but there are very
numerous and if you make a search with the tittle of the song you want
associated with "midi", I am sure you will find.

Not really........ :) But, I can play around with it. Another thing
I may try is a software music making program called "MTV Music
Generator" - I was just trying to take the lazy way out!
