Snareless snare???

Snareless snare???

2002-10-02 by bk452468

What is the best way to simulate a (wooden) snare with the snare-mat
off? Ik often play with the snares off on my accoustic kit and would
like to do the same on my dtxpress 2. To me all the pre-programmed
snares are with the snares on.

Thanks,

Joep

I've not tried this, but I think you would have to go into the tom
voices to find something suitable. You will probably need to reduce
the reverb, and shorten the decay for a good sound. You may also need
to layer two voices to get the proper attack sound, which usually is
much sharper for snare. Anybody ever tried this?

yeah i have actually done exactly what hairytrigger was saying in his
reply to your post, i have the dtxpress module so i'm not sure how
much the tom voices have changed from that to the dtxpress II ,but
what i did was pick a mid to bottom end sounding tom,and then layer a
higher tom over it,or i guess you could use the same tom voice for
both, and just play with the tuning a bit too.. then after the way i
assigned the voices on my paritcular set-up for it , i went in an
adjusted various parameters of each voice, and crossfaded them
together so the 2 voices mixed well, also you can adjust the volume
for each voice as well ,so in my case i wanted a somewhat of snare
that sounded like the snares were thrown off combined with a nice
crisp picollo kind of voice, and it really worked out well .. so check
out those tom voices, and don't be afraid to expirement with it ,and
you'll find after some tweeking it should do the trick quite well..
hope this helps you out

ps. if you want a detailed description of how i layed my voices out
for my off-snare sound let me know and i'll email you the specifics
to get you started then you could always customise it from there
