accented note on snare don't work while i hit another pad !

2002-11-20 by dopmi

Hi , i was practicing accented note between hit hat and snare and i
saw that my accented note on snare pad don't work ( silence ) while i
hit at the same time hit hat , i first think it's because they are
too close and maybe vibration cause that but it's the same if i hit
at the same time any others pad ! , that happen for accented note and
when i play a little more then acentued , apparently that not happen
when i play non acentued note , my level gain on snare was 94 , i
reduce to 64 and problem still the same , anybody had this problem or
understand what happen ? is it a pad problem or a module problem ?
thank's for you help
Stephane

Hi Stepane,

In your trigger setting for your snare, do you have
specific rejection specified for the input your HH is
on? If so you may want to reduce the value and see if
the problem goes away. Walt

Hi Walt , i think you found the problem ;-) , the problem with this
trigger setting is that when you make a change ( i think i made one
without noticed that ) you don't have the alert to comfirm ( like
when you change you voice you have the " are you sure? " ) all that
rejection setting are new to me , i find how to make snare work find
with all pad , only snare with hit hat still don't work fine , can
you give me the default setting ? i try some changement between hit
hat and snare and problem still here for now ...
Thanks You
Stephane

Hi Stephane,

I wish it was easy to specify a default, but it is not
that simple - each setup is different. I would
approach the problem by changing the Specific
Rejection value to zero, then hit the HH as hard as
you ever would, if the snare trigger fires because you
are hitting the HH pad then I would raise the value by
1 and try again. You only want enough rejection to
prevent false triggere, but not enough to block your
snare accent notes. If that doesn't work you may also
have to reduce the sensitivity of the snare to correct
this problem, or find a way to physically block the
vibrations of hitting the HH from being transmitted to
the snare - it is like tring to walk on a wire - you
must find the balance point between many variables,
but try adjusting the rejection first!

Hi Stephane,

Try what Walt says first. But it's also possible that the gain on
your snare is too low now at 64 (94 was probably too high). A more
remote possibility is that the pad type in the trigger menu is
wrong. You'll find the cause.

Hi , i din't have time to test many possibility but i don't yet
resolved the problem between snare and hit hat , also i just realize
one error on my first post , it's not when i play accented note that
the snare don't work but when i play Unacented note , when i wrote my
first post i talked about pratice accented note but i forget to
precise that that's the ghost note who was the problem ( yea a little
confusing ;-)

If all else fails, you can always reset the brain to it's factory
defaults. You'll lose any stored kits and songs in the process, but
if things are so mucked up you can't fix them, it may be an
alternative. I had to do it once when I first got mine because I
screwed something up I didn't know how to fix...

Hi Stephanie,

I assumed ghost notes was what you were having trouble
with. The soft hits are the ones you notice problems
with more often than hard hits. Walt

i finaly reset all and now it's not only between snare and hit hat
that ghost snare don't work sometime but when i play snare with any
other pad ... ;-((( , strange cause it's not the first time i
practice ghost note and i never had this problem before , that may be
a snare pad problem ?

Re: [DTXpress] Re: accented note on snare don't work while i hit another pad !

2002-11-21 by Walt

Hi Stephane,

Isn't it fun to try to get your kit set up right?

First, if ghost notes are working OK when you play
only the snare, that that tells us you should have
enough sensitivity to pick up those easy hits. This
may not mean that you may not need to raise the
sensitivity later, but for now leave it where you have
it. If ghost notes are not working properly when you
play only the snare, then you may want to increase the
gain in the trigger settings until ghost notes do
work.

The next thing to look at, now that the ghost notes
are not working when you hit other pads, should be the
rejection parameter (not self rej or specific rej)-
which is the only rejection parameter that impacts the
playing of all other pads. Yesterday, when the
problem was only when you played the HH, we only
looked at specificific rejection.

I would change the Rej parameter in the snare trigger
settings to 0, then try playing ghost notes and other
pads to see if they work. If they do, then I would
play hard on the other pads to see if the snare
triggers from the other pads vibrations. If it does,
then I would increase the value of the rejection by 1,
and try again.

Do not feel alone, I have been fighting trigger
problems all week too.

Re: accented note on snare don't work while i hit another pad !

2002-11-21 by dopmi

Hi Walt , i have just reduce like you said the Rej parameter of snare
pad to 0 and still same problem , i try to reduce to only 1 or 2 and
still the ghost note of snare don't work while i hti another pad , i
have wrote on paper the default setting of those parameter to not
have to reset again but as even with 0 on rej parameter on snare pad
and problem still here is it really a trigger parameter problem ?

that make me feel less alone ;-))

Thank's for you help

Re: [DTXpress] Re: accented note on snare don't work while i hit another pad !

2002-11-21 by Walt

Hi Stephane,

Do the ghost notes still work OK when you are playing
the snare by itself? If so, then the next thing I
will need to look at is some of the snare trigger
settings. Can you tell me what you have set for the
snare trigger for the Gain, Min. gain, Pad type, Rej,
Self rej and Specific rej? Also, when you hit the
snare pad as hard as you can, about what level shows
up on the Level Display ( on the screen where you set
the gain - you want to adjust the gain so it shows
about 100% when hit real hard). Also, what model pad
are you using for your snare?

If it was a bad pad or cable, I would not expect the
soft hits to not work at all, but you could swap the
pad and cable with one of your toms to be sure - these
kits have fooled me before.

I still think this is a trigger setting problem - when
you look at the module from a basic level, it has two
sections - the trigger settings and the voice
settings. The trigger settings control how the
electronic signals are sensed by the module (which one
was hit, how hard was it hit, what type of pad it is,
that type of thing) - the voice setting determine what
sounds to make when the hit is sensed by the module.

Re: accented note on snare don't work while i hit another pad !

2002-11-22 by dopmi

Hi Walt , the problem was Specific Rej , when you are too much into
something you don't do it well sometime , when you talked to me about
specific rejec in my mind it was on the same "page" as Rej and and
Self Rej , then when you ask me to tell you for level of specific
reject i see that i didn't yet change that level , i set it to 0 and
now all work fine .
Thank You ;-))

Cool - I like it when things are working! Now if I
can get mine working too, we'll be happy. Have a
great weekend! Walt
