To buy or not to buy....and wheres cheap online??

To buy or not to buy....and wheres cheap online??

2003-02-21 by bpocred <bpoc@hotmail.com>

Hi Guys.
I have been playing with the idea of buying a DTXPRESS for about 12
months now and right now i am just about on the verge of wanting to
finally do the deal. But I'm anxious and have some questions.

Firstly I want to find out where the cheapest place to buy from is. I
live in London and so any online store in Europe would be good.

What can I expect to pay for everything I need to get started??

Is this a good kit to learn on? I have limited playing experience on
a kit I bought about 8 years ago but only used for about 12 months.

I am eager to utilse my laptop with the kit should I decide to
purchase the dtxpress. What is the available range of external sound
cards for laptop computers like. What price can I expect to pay for
an entry level one??

I think thats about it for now.
Any help appreciated,
Brian

Hi Brian. I live in the United States and I purchased my DTXPRESS
from Ebay for $700 and it was used. I'm very impressed with the
programming that the DTXPRESS offers. In my own sense it is virtually
unlimited to how you can shape the sounds. I've had a couple of
acoustic drum players sit down on this electronic kit and were quiet
impressed with the sensitivity the pads carried and the sounds it had
offered. So yes, I believe it is a great kit to learn on. I don't
know the availability of soundcards on laptops..I'm sorry I don't
have one of them. But I'm sure they are everywhere. The bottom line I
have to say is: Its one of the best kits for the $$. Very hard to
beat. Hope this helps!

Gary

Hi Brian
I also live in Europe(sweden) and i found a great deal for the
dtxpress2 at

 http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/iw_smb_suche.html?

i bought mine there no problems at all. and no taxew within europe
thats good :=)
You will need something to sit on and a pedal though but it can be
found cheap at their website.

Dont you have any sort of sound card in your laptop? if you have a
joystick port you probably have. i bought a cable connecting the
brain with the computer trough the joystick port and it works great.

Good luck with your dtxpress if you buy one

Andreas

Hi Brian,
I now live in the Shetland Islands and bought my DTXpress from Andertons in Guildford. Only £749, and with great service, check out their web-site.
Good luck
Duncan

Hi Brian

I'm also in London and I just purchased a DTXpress II about a month
ago. I got mine from www.thomann.de and it was as cheap as I could
find it - came to a touch under £700 and I got a perfectly
reasonable
drumstool for an extra £20 or so.

Although the kit turned up fine, I was a tiny bit disappointed with
the service from thomann. Their website said that 90% of their stock
leaves them within 48 hours of ordering, but I guess the DTXpress
must be in the remaining 10% because it took two or three weeks to
arrive. They were also very slow to respond to emails (though they
did eventually answer every email I sent them). I don't think it's a
reason not to use them, but it's worth knowing in advance so you
don't have expectations that they won't live up to.

Your other questions are probably better answered by other people
here who have had the kit for longer than I have. All I can say at
the moment is that I'm practicing more on this kit than at any other
time in my life, just because it's sitting in my front room and I can
play it without driving the whole neighbourhood crazy. That makes it
a good kit to learn on in my book.

Regards

-Matthew
