Snare/Rim Shot/Cross Stick Problem

Snare/Rim Shot/Cross Stick Problem

2003-04-09 by Jade

Hey guys,
I am having a time with my snare. I keep hitting the Rim Shot, and
when I do the "cross stick" sounds. I raised my throne, but can't
seem to eliminate this. Could I have my snare settings messed up,
and getting cross talk? I have the 3 zone snare..here are my
settings:
snrR1(Cross Stick)             snrR2(Rim Shot)

snrR1=S/110 S SStck2           snrR2=S/079 OpenRim
Decay=0 Fc=0                   Vol 120 Pan C
Fade=0                         Tune=0 F=0
Rim To Pad=disable              Decay=0 Fc=0
 Vol=100 Pan C                  Fade=0Rim To Pad=disable

SNARE TRIGGER EDIT SETTINGS:
Gain=65 MVel=15
VCurve=Norml
SelfRej=1 Rej=3
SPCRej=7 frm=8

Can anyone help me eliminate the cross stick sound when I hit my
snare dead center or if I do a rim shot....I can't figure out HOW to
reject the cross stick. Is there a way I can mute the cross stick
part of the rim, and turn it back on when I need it? If so....HOW
can I do this?
Thanks for any help offered.

Hi Jade,

Although I have fiddled with the 3 znoe pad, about the
only parm that I can think of to try to clean this up
with is SelfRej. Does the 3 zone pad have a
sensitivity control on the underside? If so it may
only impact the main part of the pad, which may give
you a little more seperation between it and the rim
triggers. This is going to be one that you'll have to
be subtile with your adjustments...

Hello Jade,
   One possible solution, which I found by accident
when I first set the kit up, is to us a mono jack lead
instead of a stereo. I spent about half an hour trying
to get the rims on the snare working before I realized
my error. (Doh!!!) I know it may not be a text book
way to do things but it may work in the short term
until you sort it out.

Walt...NO SENSATIVITY adjustment on it. Surely there
must be a way that I can MUTE the cross stick. You
can only adjust Self Rej for the actual snare....not
the rim sounds, from what I can tell....I will have to
check again.

Seems to me that there should be a way to MUTE the
rims...there is NO way to use SPEC Rej on any of the
rims....might have to put a call into Yamaha

Walt....there is NO WAY to set Spec Rej parameters on
the rims....JUST on the snare....may have to put a
call into Martin @ Yamaha....there must be a way to
mute, I am thinking I would have to save the MUTED rim
to another kit and switch kits....I am trying to
figure out how to use the pads to increment and
decrement to a saved kit.

RE: [DTXpress] Snare/Rim Shot/Cross Stick Problem

2003-04-10 by rdamon@mckinney-usa.com

Just from memory, you can set the voice number in the range of 0-127
(depending on which voice catagory you are selecting from). If you set a
voice for a specific trigger input to "0" , it will mute that trigger. So
you could have a voice assigned for the main pad and the rim1 switch and
then set rim2 to "0" on say User Kit 50 and set rim2 to a cross-stick voice
on User Kit 51. That would mute the cross-stick (rim2) on User Kit 50 but
not User Kit 51. Although, I have two snare pads and I have not had this
problem with either. I am not sure if this helps solves your problem though.

(P.S. I confess, I cheat on the cross-stick, since the TP65S is a such a
small pad, I directly hit the second rim, rather than using the traditional
method of laying the stick across the pad. I also have kits that assign one
cymbal type to the bow, say a sizzle and assigns a crash to the edge. That
gives me two cymbals for the price of one, but this means you have to be
very precise when you strike the pad to get the intended voice. To vary the
sound even more on selected cymbals, I then enable the "edge to pad" setting
so that they both trigger the edge and main pad when striking just the edge.
I had even initially set up my second TP65S as multiple cymbal types but
then just changed it to a piccolo snare to supplement the main snare pad.
This stuff is just way too much fun, love it, love it, love it!!!!!!)

I was thinking about this the other day (pure speculation, as I
don't have the kit yet)... could you split in a simple on/off
footswitch to one of the "spare" FSR inputs on a stereo pad input,
and then assign that to inc/dec?
