splitting signals/trigger misses

splitting signals/trigger misses

2003-05-01 by hairytrigger

Hi all
Regarding the splitting of the piezo and rim triggers, as Ed has said:
It won't work. I have tried it myself different ways. There is a
special bond between the two. I can't break it!!!! Too Bad. Would have
been good.
Regarding; Missed triggers and volume problems. Have you considered
the possibility that triggers are NOT missed, and volume is NOT
changing? Many times, when playing with others, my own volume seems
diminished, and I don't hear some triggers. But I know they are there,
because I hear them in the recordings, even when I was sure they would
not be there. If you are playing with others, their volume(s) will
mask yours, making it seem like you are not as loud, or even missing
triggers. The more right on you are with timing, the worse it gets. Try
recording a live situation. See if this is true.Or try playing live
with headphones.
By the way, this phenomenon occurs most frequently with guitarists,
who respond by turning up!!!!

It's true what you said about guitarists. I installed a placebo volume knob
on our guitarists amp, without his knowlwdge of course, it worked wonders.
Everbody is happy.
In regards to the snare and high-hat double triggers, volume variations and
no sound, I have had this problem only when playing with my band in practice
and at gigs. I'm not a banger, never broken a cymbal or stick in thirty
years.I have also worn headphones and still experienced the same problems.
There is something going on when playing with other electronic
instruments...perry

How many others have seen their kit perform differently when played in
addition to other live instruments? I have rehearsed with my set through
a behringer 16 channel mixer into a 400 watt Carvin Cube amp powering two
12" cabinets and have played fairly loud. I would play along with
Metallica or Foghat or Zepplin and never see the drop out problem. But,
using the exact same setup with two vocal mics and a stratocaster with a
fender amp in the room and my kit just seemed to go berzerk. Missing some
hits and others wildly out of proportion to the hits surrounding them
(i.e. four mezzopiano-intensity kicks may produce one kick at mezzopiano
one at Triple Forte followed by two at mezzopiano).

This is just weird. As for it being my ears playing tricks on me, when
the weird kick dynamics would happen, some of the other performers would
look over at me like "WTF?" and I would shrug... It was weird and
embarassing. I *almost* dragged my old Pearl acoustic set into the room,
but decided to play around with the DTX before I give up on it for
practice with others. I don't get to play often and the DTX is wonderful
for rehersing with recorded music and headphones, but I need to find the
Majick Phorumula for live playing! :p
