New user needs help from the wise

Howdy, I've been figuring out how to record a song so that I can add an invisible pecussionist to the kit. I record the tracks, but if I switch kits, the song automatically plays the sounds that are assigned to the kit. My congas turn into toms, etc. What the heck am I doing wrong? On a similar note(no pun intended) can I assign a song to a pad, and trigger it that way? Thanks in advance. Raven
