Already tried it with my minidisk recorder when the
band didn't have a bass player/keyboard player - but
found it awful.
I soon got tired of adjusting my tempo/speeding
up/slowing down to match the music on the minidisc.
All the natural expression and freedom in my playing
vanished. I did not feel comfortable. I would
definitely NOT recommend it.
Besides, it's cheating....

YES....

Cheating!!! thats what I need to do Cheat!!! I've seen it done, and
done well, well not the minidisk thing, but the music as a whole
using some spiffy piece of equipment....bottom lin is that the guys
that I play with are good, no doubt about it. however there are
tunes that we would like to cover that contain instuments that none
of us have any clue how to play, Flutes,Violins, orchestra sequences,
Etc. I guess the obvious answer is not to play them...but thats just
not an option for me....since the gigs that we are booking require us
to play at least 15 tunes of this one list. the crowd pleaser
tunes....Help!!! now I'm desperate. got a gig booked next month!!!

You hit the nail on the head, sir.

Even though I used to make money doing this is small bars,
I can't stand watching people playing to backup music. It's sterile.

I live in Orlando, FL. and damn near every tourist trap / theme park
uses one/two musicians who play to canned music. Yech... and if you
look around, no one is the least bit into it.
