Amplification...

2003-08-14 by vtis0145

Hi!!

I just got my DTXPress (first model, used), and I have to say that
IT'S WONDERFUL. I love it.

Anyway, I'm tired of playing with headphones, and some people
had recommended me:

*  Behringer KX1200

or

* Behringer Ultrawave B300

Have you guys have one of these babies for your drumming
pleasure? What's your advice?

(all info is on www.behringer.com)

I prefer the sound of my near - field monitors, Yorkville YSM-1s over any keyboard amp or PA cabinet. They 're bout $200 a pair. The
powered version is about $425 a pair. M-audio, Behringer and a few other companies make some inexpensive powered monitors too. I
think I saw a Musicians Friend catalog selling Samson powered monitors for $199 a pair. Not only can you listen to your drums on them
but you can use them to mix with and listen to CD's on.

I'll ask for the yorkvilles in the music shop, thanks.

By the way, I have an old power amplifier (200W RMS, 4 Ohm, mono).
Do you think that I can just go with a non-powered monitor whith
that?

The Behr. KX1200 has rcvd bad press both here and elsewhere. I can
confirm that the KX1200 does indeed distort badly. I picked the unit
up (barely)used/dirt cheap and only use it as a monitor in my
office/studio, so Im not completely heartbroken. Im sure I'll upgrade
eventually though.

 I own the non-powered ones under-powered by a 40w /channel NAD amp.
It's too bad you only have a mono amp but it will definately work. You also get a 2 year warranty where you can drive over the thing and
get a replacement free of charge. I have not read one single opinion or review that didn't like these speakers. The only drag that I can
think of is that not many stores carry Yorkville in the US.
Good Luck,
Jun

I've picked two celestion qx-153, used. I've tested them with my
power amplifier, and they sound good to me. I think I will buy
them.
